The Arts Centre
The Arts Centre is one of New Zealand’s most significant historic and cultural attractions. Once the site of the University of Canterbury, today these distinctive Gothic Revival buildings are a dynamic venue for arts, entertainment and events.
With more than forty studios, galleries and specialty shops, as well as theatres, cinemas, cafés, restaurants and bars, and a weekend Art, Craft, & Produce Market incorporating an International Food Fair, The Arts Centre has something for everyone.
Watch artists at work and purchase their products. Must-see historic features include the Den of Nobel prize-winning scientist Ernest Rutherford, the Great Hall and the Townsend Observatory.
