Central Library / Te Kete Wānanga o Ōtākaro
The South Island’s flagship public library, attracting almost 900,000 visits every year. Its three floors offer a wealth of resources, overlooking the Avon river and historic Provincial Chambers.
Take your laptop, grab a comfy chair and try the free wireless internet access, read the huge range of newspapers, browse the South Island’s best range of magazines or surf the web – 1000’s of sites are free, open access is $3 an hour.
The Centre for the Child has lots to occupy the kids, the Aotearoa New Zealand Centre is a kiwiana treasure trove, while the Ngā Pounamu Māori Centre is a great space to spend time exploring Māori culture.
